Wear Life of Polyurethane - White Paper

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the differences in wear life of polyurethane when used for conveyor belt cleaning. The paper discusses the statistical distribution of wear life data for several blade designs commonly used in mining and heavy industry. The results show there is a significant difference in the mean and standard deviations for the five applications studied.

Vibrator Enhances Dump Performance

Dump bodies from Towmaster Inc. feature the Cougar® DC-3200 12V Truck Vibrator from Martin Engineering. Located at the center front on the underside of the body, the vibrator delivers 4,000 cycles per minute with 3,200 pounds of force, releasing sticky materials and eliminating the need to raise the body to its steepest angle. This eliminates the need to get in the body of the truck and shovel out the corners.

Think Clean: A Blog By Dick Stahura, Sr.

THINK CLEAN®: Durt, The Movie!

THINK CLEAN®: How Can I Lighten Your Load?

When I first joined Martin Engineering in 1963, it occurred to me that many of the problems we encountered were the result of fugitive material – carryback, spillage or dust that escapes from conveyors to increase cleanup and maintenance expenses, shorten equipment life, increase the risk of injury and otherwise damage an operation’s efficiency.

Apron Seal skirting wears before the belt due to its lower modulus of elasticity.

Why Does The Skirting Seal Wear Out Instead of The Belt?

Dan Marshall, a Martin conveyor products engineer, explains why conveyor belt skirting wears before the belt, even though the seal usually has a higher durometer. To put it simply, in three body wear, or a situation where a particle is abrading on two surfaces, the wear will be influenced more by modulus than durometer. A particle will become trapped between the seal and the belt.
